Name: Ursoid
Planet: Amargosa
Type: Fauna — Predator
Summary:
Ursoids are large, bear-like predators native to Amargosa, towering over most humans and ranking among the apex predators of the planet’s ecosystem. Heavily built with thick, dark fur, Ursoids are known for their powerful musculature and surprising bursts of speed, allowing them to ambush prey such as gosalopes and moosalo with lethal efficiency.
Aggressive and highly territorial, ursoids pose a constant threat to isolated settlements and travelers in Amargosa’s wilderness. Colonists have long regarded them as a hazard rather than a resource, as their tough meat and strong gamey flavor make them an undesirable food source in normal times.
However, during the invasion of Amargosa, the resistance forces and scattered survivors are forced to rely on whatever sustenance they can find. Several ursoids are hunted and eaten over the course of the resistance, their meat providing much-needed protein despite its toughness and less-than-pleasant flavor. While not the preferred game of Amargosans, Ursoids become a survival food under desperate circumstances.
