Date: 429–430 Interstellar Era (IE)
Belligerents: Gelt Warrior Caste (under the Laral Family) vs. Compact of Humanity in Assembly
Outcome: Liberation of Amargosa and partial integration of Gelt settlers
The Occupation of Amargosa began in 429 IE when the planet was seized by Gelt forces under the leadership of Laral Umish, who commandeered a Warrior-led invasion in defiance of both the Compact and the Gelt Sovereign’s protocols. The invasion was swift and brutal, with clean fusion weapons detonated in major cities like Lansdorp, effectively crippling local governance and infrastructure.
A failed Compact liberation attempt, led by Force Admiral Quentin Austin of the Valles Marineris, occurred roughly one week into the occupation. Though unsuccessful, this mission set the stage for later coordinated resistance efforts and a final liberation.
The occupation formally ended in 430 IE due to a convergence of destabilizing factors:
- The emergence of Sapient Lycanths, who joined the resistance
- Defections among Gelt settlers and Warrior castes, disillusioned with the Laral-led regime
- A growing human underground resistance, spearheaded by figures like Suicide, Colonel Jovann, and Major Quan
- A joint Compact–Hanar military campaign that provided the decisive push to drive the invaders out
Following the planet’s liberation, surviving Gelt settlers convinced the humans to let them stay, pledging to rebuild the farms they had stolen and to restore displaced livestock herds. This uneasy cooperation laid the groundwork for a post-occupation society defined by tentative interspecies cohabitation.
