Mechs are humanoid drones originally developed by the Gelt as battlefield units. Designed to operate independently or under human, Gelt, or AI command, Gelt mechs were optimized for combat roles, capable of operating in hostile environments including vacuum, extreme temperatures, and heavy radiation.
Following the Liberation of Amargosa, many surviving mechs were retrofitted for civilian use. With new CPUs and memory cores, they were repurposed for agricultural labor, construction, and reconstruction efforts across the war-torn planet. In the Compact, mechs—particularly former Gelt models—are now seen less as combat units and more as valuable tools for rebuilding, especially in frontier settlements like Amargosa and Farigha.
