Name: Gosalope
Planet: Amargosa
Type: Fauna — Herbivore, Native Species
Summary:
Gosalopes are native three-legged analogs to Terran deer, uniquely adapted to Amargosa’s environment. Their tripod gait allows them to move swiftly and with surprising agility across the planet’s uneven terrain, including grasslands, wooded areas, and rocky foothills. The species’ anatomy features a powerful rear leg for propulsion and balance, while the front two legs allow for nimble maneuvering and sudden bursts of speed.
Generally shy and skittish, gosalopes are herbivores that graze on native grasses and shrubs. However, when startled or cornered, they are capable of defensive aggression. During the events of Gimme Shelter, JT Austin encounters this firsthand when he is cornered by a gosalope, demonstrating the animal’s unpredictable nature under stress.
Gosalopes are valued by settlers for their meat and tough hides, although they are less commonly domesticated than moosalo due to their more nervous disposition and agility. In the wild, they are preyed upon by predators such as lycanths, and their alertness serves as an early warning for other animals and humans alike.
During the Gelt Incursion of 429 IE, scattered gosalope herds continued to roam the countryside, becoming both a survival food source for humans and a target for opportunistic Gelt forces and native predators.
