The Fukushima Maru was a civilian freighter operating between core worlds and major colony systems. The vessel responded to the distress call from the Alyssa Carson during a catastrophic reactor failure and rescued its surviving recruits and crew. Despite being a cargo vessel, the Fukushima Maru maintained adequate medical facilities, which proved critical in stabilizing Davra Andraste after she suffered extreme radiation exposure while manually jettisoning the Carson‘s reactor.
The ship’s name, ironically, was derived from Fukushima Province on Earth, the site of one of the worst nuclear accidents in pre-Interstellar Era history. Its involvement in rescuing survivors from another fission-related disaster added a layer of grim symbolism to the event. The Fukushima Maru later transported Davra and other recruits to the Zeus Yards for reassignment.
