Planet: Amargosa
Location: Near northern polar continent
Summary:
Deming is one of the principal cities on Amargosa, notable for being a major industrial center specializing in the manufacture of heavy equipment. Along with Arcanum, Deming plays a vital role in supporting the colony’s agricultural and infrastructure sectors, producing native machinery critical to the survival and economic function of the planet.
During the Gelt Incursion of 429 IE, Deming was one of the first cities to come under full assault. According to reports relayed by Major Furlong from Southern Command, approximately half the city’s population managed to evacuate, while the remaining inhabitants were killed or captured. Following the initial attack, Gelt forces began systematic demolition of the city’s buildings, indicating a deliberate effort to cripple Amargosa’s industrial capacity.
The destruction of Deming, combined with similar attacks on Arcanum and the vaporization of Lansdorp, severely undermined Amargosa’s ability to produce food, maintain transportation systems, or mount a coordinated defense. The targeting of Deming also underscored the invaders’ larger strategy: eliminate the colony’s means of self-sufficiency to force abandonment of the land.
Although no significant battles are shown in The Children of Amargosa, the fall of Deming becomes a key moment in the narrative, influencing resistance planning, refugee movement, and the assessment of Gelt tactics.
