Cassandra was a recruit from Metis who trained alongside Davra Andraste aboard the aging transport Alyssa Carson during their journey to the Helios system. Initially part of a clique of privileged Metisian girls led by a recruit named Diana, Cassandra distinguished herself during a reactor emergency aboard the Carson by siding with Davra against the group’s pettiness and recognizing her duty to the ship and its crew.
When a reactor failure threatened to destroy the Carson, Cassandra witnessed Davra volunteer for a near-suicidal repair mission to jettison the fission core. Deeply affected by Davra’s bravery and leadership under pressure, Cassandra defied her former clique and insisted on staying by Davra’s side through her recovery aboard the freighter Fukushima Maru. Afterward, she transferred to a new Officer Training School class alongside Davra, with a renewed commitment to serving as a true naval spacer.
The “Mean Girls”
At the outset of training, Cassandra was associated with a group of privileged Metisian recruits who mocked and bullied other trainees, including Davra. The group, led by Diana, referred to Davra with derogatory nicknames like “dirt muncher” and “methane breather,” targeting her for her Amargosan and Bromdarian background. However, the life-threatening reactor incident exposed the group’s immaturity and selfishness. While Diana and the others continued their clique behavior—and ultimately washed out of training—Cassandra broke away and chose to uphold Compact Navy values of duty and loyalty, marking a major personal turning point.
