The Alyssa Carson was an aging transport ship originally built for the Metisian Planetary Defense forces. Following the Gelt Incursion and during the rebuilding efforts, the ship was pressed into service by the Compact Navy to ferry recruits between systems. Unlike most modern naval vessels, the Carson was powered by a fission reactor, a dangerous and outdated technology typically banned for civilian and military use due to the risk of catastrophic failure.
During a routine transfer to Tian in the Helios system, the Alyssa Carson suffered a severe reactor malfunction, threatening a full-scale meltdown. Thanks to the intervention of Davra Andraste, who manually jettisoned the failing reactor at great personal risk, the ship and its passengers were saved. The ship was later declared unfit for further service and decommissioned. The Alyssa Carson is often cited as a cautionary example of the hazards of maintaining fission-powered vessels in active duty.
